Adaptive Lp inversion to recover both blocky and smooth features

چکیده
Inversion based on L2 norm has been widely used in geophysical problems. However, L2 inversion is only capable of recovering smooth features. To obtain sharp boundaries, non-L2 inversion has been used successfully. In reality, however, both smooth and blocky features can be present in the subsurface physical property or interfaces to be recovered. To deal with this situation, we propose a new method to adaptively apply L2 and non-L2 norm to different parts of the same model. This method first detects the smoothness or blockiness of different regions of a model and then applies appropriate Lp model norm with different p values to complete the final inversion. We test this method in an example of crosshole seismic traveltime inversion.

3D Inversion of Magnetic Data through Wavelet based Regularization Method
This study deals with the 3D recovering of magnetic susceptibility model by incorporating the sparsity-based constraints in the inversion algorithm. For this purpose, the area under prospect was divided into a large number of rectangular prisms in a mesh with unknown susceptibilities. Tikhonov cost functions with two sparsity functions were used to recover the smooth parts as well as the sharp ...

Among many approaches been made to improve interpretation of post stack seismic section, a great effort has been made aimed at increasing the resolution power of interpreting section and mapping the seismic reflection data to lithology. The purpose of sparse spike impedance inversion is aimed at this goal, to obtain a high-resolution impedance profile from low resolution or band limited seismic...
متن کاملA new method for 3-D magnetic data inversion with physical bound
Inversion of magnetic data is an important step towards interpretation of the practical data. Smooth inversion is a common technique for the inversion of data. Physical bound constraint can improve the solution to the magnetic inverse problem. However, how to introduce the bound constraint into the inversion procedure is important. Imposing bound constraint makes the magnetic data inversion a n...
متن کاملComparing Geostatistical Seismic Inversion Based on Spectral Simulation with Deterministic Inversion: A Case Study
Seismic inversion is a method that extracts acoustic impedance data from the seismic traces. Source wavelets are band-limited, and thus seismic traces do not contain low and high frequency information. Therefore, there is a serious problem when the deterministic seismic inversion is applied to real data and the result of deterministic inversion is smooth. Low frequency component is obtained fro...
متن کاملGeophysical applications of a novel and robust L1 solver
L1-norm is better than L2-norm at dealing with noisy data and yielding blocky models, features crucial in many geophysical applications. In this report, we develop a hybrid-norm solver proposed by Claerbout (2009) to perform L1 regressions. The solver is tested on a 1-D field RMS velocity inversion, a 2-D regularized Kirchhoff migration inversion and a 2-D velocity analysis problem. The results...
